OXFORD - Southern Miss struggled against Ole Miss starting pitcher James McArthur for the second consecutive week. The Golden Eagles, however, fared much better against the Rebels’ bullpen in their rematch at Swayze Field on Wednesday night.
Southern Miss earned a 5-1 win against the Rebels. The victory gives the Golden Eagles a four-game winning streak and seventh win in their past eight games.
The Golden Eagles (26-8) begin a three-game series at UAB at 6:30 p.m. Friday, while the No. 11 Rebels (25-8) next play at 7 p.m. Friday at Alabama.
The Golden Eagles’ bullpen shut down the Rebels long enough for a three-run eighth inning to earn the win.
