Southern Miss football legend dies at age 86

Hamp Cook a former Southern Miss football player and assistant coach, died on Christmas morning, the university announced. Cook was 86.

He lettered for Southern Miss from 1952-54. He helped lead the Golden Eagles to two Sun Bowl appearances. Cook, who was an all-state linebacker at Georgiana High in Alabama, was also part of two victories over Alabama while at Southern Miss.

Cook was chosen as a member of the Southern Miss Team of the Century that was released in 2000.
