Unless something changes, and quickly, Southern Miss will find itself taking a rare in-season weekend off.
The baseball program, try as it might, has not identified a willing suitor to fill any of the dates that came open when the threat of inclement weather forced the Golden Eagles to back out of a five-team tournament at Stephen F. Austin. The team’s inclusion in that tournament only came about when Mississippi’s “religious freedom” bill (House Bill 1523) resulted in the cancellation of a planned three-game home series against New York’s Stony Brook University.
