This year has brought many unexpected changes for Southern Miss football fans, and with less than two weeks to go until the season opener, the surprises haven't ceased.
As of Thursday afternoon, six Golden Eagles have opted out of the 2020 season. Five of the six student-athletes sitting out are entering the transfer portal as well.
Redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Junior Carswell, redshirt sophomore Garrett Crawford, senior defensive end Jacques Turner, redshirt senior Racheem Boothe and senior running back Steven Anderson have all announced their decisions to opt out and enter the portal this past week.
"We support them," Southern Miss head football coach Jay Hopson said.
