A season that began with plenty of promise has stalled all of the sudden.
Following the conclusion of Friday’s 8-2 win over Western Kentucky, which had been suspended in the eighth inning due to rain, Southern Miss fell flat in a 7-1 loss to the Hilltoppers. The 12th-ranked Golden Eagles, which started 17-5, have lost four of their last eight games and fallen to 7-3 in Conference USA.
Since beating Florida Atlantic on March 25, Southern Miss’ opponents have scored at least one run in 18 out of a possible 65 innings.
