Plagued by a painfully slow start, Southern Miss lost 69-61 at South Alabama Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles (3-4) trailed 29-4 with less than 11 minutes left in the first half before cutting the gap to 40-19 at halftime.
Doc Sadler’s team made up some ground in the second half, shooting 50 percent from the field compared to a mere 25.9 percent clip in the first half. Dominic Magee paced the Golden Eagles with 16 points (14 in the second half) and pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds. Cortez Edwards contributed 14 points and 6 boards.
But the Jaguars (5-3) were too much.
