One of the many ripple effects of Todd Monken’s abrupt resignation on Sunday is the impact it could have on Southern Miss’ recruiting efforts.
The Golden Eagles’ coaching staff has spent the past year putting together one of the program’s stronger classes in the last half-decade. But when Monken stepped down to accept the offensive coordinator job with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, many of Southern Miss’ competitors on the recruiting trail assumed it was open season on the team’s current verbal commitments and prospects.
However, in the wake of Monken’s departure, the majority of the Golden Eagles’ pledges remain sold on the Black and Gold.
