RUSTON, Louisiana — Southern Miss inched one step closer toward bowl eligibility with a dramatic 34-27 double-overtime win at Louisiana Tech Saturday.
The Golden Eagles (5-2, 3-1 in Conference USA) need only one more victory to get there for the third year in a row. But more importantly, Jay Hopson's bunch got itself right back in the thick of the race for the West division crown. Southern Miss is tied with North Texas for first place in the West.
The Mean Green, which was blown out at FAU Saturday, own the tiebreaker.
