Ole Miss baseball beats Southern Miss 12-9, advances to Super Regional against Arizona

OXFORD — Ole Miss baseball ended Southern Miss' season and advanced to Super Regionals on Monday with a 12-9 win over the Golden Eagles.

Ole Miss (44-20) blistered out to a 9-0 lead in the first two innings and rode five home runs to its high-scoring victory. Senior designated hitter Tim Elko hit two home runs, including his second grand slam of the Oxford Regional, to power the Rebels ahead.

To its credit, Southern Miss hit six home runs Monday, including two from centerfielder Reed Trimble. The Golden Eagles trimmed Ole Miss' deficit to three runs in the fifth inning thanks to three home runs.
