NORFOLK, Virginia — The Keon Howard era began for Southern Miss on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles’ prized quarterback prospect from the team’s most recent signing class was pressed into duty sooner than the coaching staff planned and performed well at Old Dominion’s Foreman Field. The former Laurel star, starting in place of injured quarterbacks Nick Mullens and Parker Adamson, accounted for more than 350 yards of total offense and scored a pair of rushing touchdowns.
But it went for naught. Howard fumbled five times, losing four, and threw an interception, which the Monarchs turned into 28 points, propelling them to a 51-35 victory.
