HATTIESBURG - Southern Miss gave Jay Hopson plenty to evaluate Saturday in the team’s first spring scrimmage of the first-year coach’s tenure.
Senior quarterback Nick Mullens threw a pair of touchdown passes — one each to D.J. Thompson and Marquise Ricard — while the Golden Eagle offense also scored four rushing touchdowns in the 75-minute intra-squad exercise.
Parker Shaunfield and Stephen Brauchle each accounted for 30-plus-yard field goals on special teams.
The Southern Miss defense was credited with six sacks, three pass breakups and an interception by junior cornerback Tarvarius Moore of a Kwadra Griggs pass.
