Southern Miss stumbled down the stretch last season, losing its last four games and seven of its last nine.
Much like the Lady Eagles’ male counterparts, Joye Lee-McNelis’ squad is expected to be a team in transition this season. While the team has not undergone the same type of roster overhaul, the 13th-year coach said recently it has struggled to stay healthy during the offseason.
“Our team is definitely going to be a work-in-progress,” Lee-McNelis said. “We’ve had three players that have been out more than they’ve been in practice.”
Returning senior starters Brittanny Dinkins (guard) and Jayla King (forward) have both been sidelined for extended periods, while sophomore guard Keri Jewett-Giles has also dealt with nagging physical ailments.
