HATTIESBURG – Southern Miss is not likely to rush into another hasty hire at athletic director.
Sources close to the situation tell the Hattiesburg American it could be three to six months, or longer, before University President Rodney Bennett names a successor to Jon Gilbert, who resigned last Monday after just a year on the job.
While that process – complete with a listening tour for supporters in at least three states – continues, there’s another round of self-evaluation going on at the ground level within the athletic department.
