Hopson to oppose familiar face Saturday

For first-year Southern Miss football coach Jay Hopson, Saturday’s home opener will be special.

A chance to lead the team he spent six seasons with as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator in the 2000s.

In addition to all the friends and family expected to be at M.M. Roberts Stadium to support Hopson, there will be one familiar face in attendance playing the role of foe. The Golden Eagles will kick off against Savannah State at 6 p.m. When they do, former Southern Miss standout defensive back Chad Williams will be on the opposite sideline hoping to spoil Hopson’s homecoming.
