Jay Hopson saw the dismissal of one assistant coach and the departure of another as a multi-pronged opportunity.
The second-year Southern Miss football coach could, on one hand, infuse the coaching staff with a pair of youthful, energetic personalities. At the same time, Hopson could up his familiarity level with his assistants. And, on top of that, he could use the turnover to do some restructuring.
Done, done and done.
In January, Hopson brought Erik Losey on to replace Jack Wright as the Golden Eagles’ offensive line coach.
