Hopson: Naming starting QB could come late

For the first time in four years, Southern Miss will open fall camp unsure who its quarterback will be when the season begins.

The Golden Eagles, who report on Monday before beginning practice Wednesday, have plenty of options. The most realistic are redshirt junior Kwadra Griggs and sophomore Keon Howard. But the team welcomed freshmen Marcelo Rodriguez and Steven Anderson, as well as walk-on freshman Willie Green. Redshirt freshman Tyler Russell and junior transfer Carter Hankins are two more walk-ons also on the current roster.

Coach Jay Hopson told the Hattiesburg American at Conference USA Media Days he is not working on a timeline for naming a starter.
