The man who led Southern Miss back to winning championships is leaving Hattiesburg.
Todd Monken has accepted an offer to become the Tampa Bay Buccanneers' new offensive coordinator. The Tampa Bay Times broke the news Sunday afternoon, after Southern Miss scheduled a press conference without specifying a reason.
Monken spoke at the press conference, calling it "the toughest decision I've made in my career." Southern Miss athletic director Bill McGillis said the search will start tonight and he expects to make a hire within a week.
Southern Miss went 9-5 this season, and won Conference USA's West Division with a 7-1 record.
