Storme Cooper showed off his power stroke Wednesday, driving in a chunk of Southern Miss’ runs in its 8-4 victory over the University of New Orleans at Pete Taylor Park.
The three-run blast that clanged off the “Tradition of Excellence” billboard just beyond the left field wall was the first of the sophomore second baseman’s Golden Eagle career. It came in career at-bat number 175.
The combination of starting pitcher Calder Mikell and relievers Alex Nelms, Trent Driver (1-0) and Austin Millet made Cooper’s round tripper — as well as LeeMarcus Boyd’s solo home run and RBI double, Daniel Keating’s run-scoring double and Hunter Slater’s RBI single in the seventh — stand up.
