Golden Eagles' season ends at NCAA regional

TALLAHASSEE, Florida — Southern Miss held South Alabama in check for nine innings in its 12-run win Friday at the Tallahassee regional.

In Sunday’s elimination game between the same two teams, that trend continued through the first four innings.

Then, Mother Nature rained on Southern Miss’ parade. Leading 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning, the Golden Eagles’ momentum was halted right in its tracks as a result of a two-hour rain delay. The Black and Gold added another run shortly after play resumed, but the Jaguars put six across the plate in the bottom of the sixth and went on to win 7-5.
