Marcus Cooper was intrigued when Southern Miss contacted him.
The 6-foot-3 Northeastern (Colorado) Junior College guard knew of the Golden Eagles and agreed to visit the Hattiesburg campus last week. One of Cooper's first forays to the South was enough to sell him on Southern Miss. He committed late last week and signed with the Golden Eagles on Monday.
Southern Miss has two open scholarship slots remaining.
Cooper, a Van Nuys, California, native, has two years of eligibility remaining.
"I've visited other schools but when I came down there, it was different," he said. "The team was cool.
