Front 7 vs. secondary: Who's chicken, egg in Southern Miss defense's equation?

Southern Miss’ football season is but a mere two games old as of this writing.

Doesn’t seem like much, to be sure. But that’s almost 17 percent of the Golden Eagles’ (1-1) regular season. And through that portion of the schedule, one could argue it’s been Jay Hopson’s defense that has stolen the show.

The very veteran secondary has made its presence felt already. Safety Tarvarius Moore leads the team with 11 tackles, while defensive back Kelsey Douglas is second with 10. In two games, Southern Miss already has two interceptions and seven pass breakups.
