Kirk McCarty wants to make one thing perfectly clear: he’s done nothing to help the Cleveland Indians during their Major League-record 22-game winning streak.
But that hasn’t stopped the former Southern Miss and Oak Grove star from feeling somewhat connected to it — even if it’s a distant connection.
“If there’s a totem pole, I’m underground,” McCarty said with a laugh Thursday.
The left-handed pitcher was drafted by the Indians in June, taken with the 222nd overall pick in the seventh round, and spent more than two months with the organization’s short-season Class A affiliate Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
