A former Southern Miss student who was recruited to the university's football team but never allowed to play filed suit Tuesday against the school, alleging his civil rights and privacy were violated.
According to court documents, Deven Hammond was recruited to Southern Miss by Coach Dan Disch after Disch saw Hammond play at defensive back in 2015 at Louisiana State University.
Hammond was a freshman at LSU, but transferred to Southern Miss after Disch offered Hammond a full-ride scholarship and the possibility of someday leading the team's defense.
