Football Eagles get back to work

HATTIESBURG - Following a short break, the majority of the Southern Miss football team got back to work last week.

Returning players and newcomers alike made their way to Hattiesburg to begin the Golden Eagles’ summer workout regimen. First-year head coach Jay Hopson is pleased with his squad’s progress through week one.

“Everybody’s working hard,” he said. “I think a lot of the guys went home in May and worked hard over the last month. It’s that time of year where we’re just kind of starting the summer program, but so far, so good.”

Southern Miss, which features a dozen returning starters including quarterback Nick Mullens, welcomed five mid-year transfers and an early signee in January.
