HATTIESBURG — Speaking on Wednesday afternoon, Southern Miss baseball coach Scott Berry wasn’t quite ready to disclose which pitcher will take the mound when the Golden Eagles open the 2022 NCAA Tournament against Army on Friday (1 p.m., ESPN+).
Given the wealth of arm talent Berry can call on, there is no bad option.
The Golden Eagles (43-16) carry the nation’s second-best earned run average into the Hattiesburg Regional, boasting a sparkling 3.16 mark bettered only by top overall seed Tennessee.
“That’s the horse we’ve been riding all season long,” Berry said.
