Taylor Braley homered twice and drove in four runs to lead Southern Miss to a 9-6 victory at Charlotte Friday.
The sophomore third baseman's ninth and 10th long balls of the season helped the Golden Eagles improve to 20-7 overall and 6-1 in Conference USA action. Charlotte drops to 12-14 and 3-4 in league play.
Cord Cockrell (5-0) picked up the victory after pitching 7u2153 innings, while giving up six runs (five earned) on nine hits. Freshman Nick Sandlin tossed the final 1u2154 innings, striking out four to earn his third save of the season.
In addition to Braley's big night, the bottom third of Southern Miss' batting order — Jake Sandlin, Storme Cooper and Nick Dawson — combined to go 6-for-12 with four RBIs.
