HATTIESBURG — Jon Gilbert is officially leaving Southern Miss for East Carolina.
Rumors of mutual interest between Southern Miss' second-year athletic director and it's former conference mate began two weeks ago and only intensified when Gilbert flew to North Carolina for an interview last week.
It culminated in Gilbert tendering his resignation to university president Rodney Bennett Sunday evening.
