Tottenham are keeping tabs on James Ward-Prowse ahead of potential summer move, with Newcastle also interested as clubs wait to see asking price if Southampton are relegated

Tottenham scouts made a check on James Ward-Prowse during Southampton's 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday.

At 28, the Southampton captain does not fit the profile for many of the elite clubs but his quality means he will still be on a number of checklists.

Tottenham and Newcastle are among those waiting to see what Southampton will ask for Ward-Prowse should they go down.

The midfielder, who has been at the Saints since 2003, will almost certainly leave the club if they are relegated.

He has made over 400 appearances for the club since making his professional debut, scoring 86 goals.
