Southampton tie down veteran striker Shane Long to new two-year contract just days after boss Ralph Hasenhuttl pledged his future until 2024

Shane Long has committed his future to Southampton by signing a new two-year contract.

Southampton have finalised a fresh deal for Long that will see the striker stay at St Mary's until 2022.

Long's contract was due to expire at the end of the season but he has now penned an extension, following on from manager Ralph Hasenhuttl who signed a new four-year contract.

Irishman Long, 33, joined Southampton in 2014 from Hull and has since gone on to make 167 appearances, scoring 27 goals, including the fastest ever in Premier League history when he netted after just 7.
