Jack Channon heads to Doncaster on Saturday hoping Majestic, the horse who helped end his father Mick’s career on a high, can deliver massive impetus to his embryonic training career with victory in the Pertemps Network Lincoln Handicap.
Majestic’s 25-1 success in last season’s Cambridgeshire at Newmarket came a few weeks before former England and Southampton striker Mick announced he would be handing control of his West Ilsley stable to his 29-year-old son.
That win perfectly topped and tailed the last of Mick’s 33 seasons as a trainer, which delivered more than 2,500 British Flat winners, after he won last season’s Lincoln, the traditional curtain-raiser to the Flat turf season, with Johan.
