A catering giant that served up grim dinners to state school children has sparked fury as it was revealed they are the same firm dishing out gourmet feasts for pupils at £20,000-a-year private schools.

Chartwells - one of England's biggest suppliers of school meals - was roasted by a headteacher over the quality of his schools meals.

Jason Ashley compiled images of the uninspiring, beige food provided to students at Redbridge Community secondary school in Southampton.

In a damning letter to parents, Mr Ashley bemoaned: 'We have concluded with our photo evidence that Chartwells do seem to be unable to 'bake a potato' correctly.
