Ritter cleared in corruption probes

After years under an investigative cloud, Broward County Commissioner Stacy Ritter has been cleared by the State Attorney's Office in three separate public corruption probes alleging she used her position for improper gain.

Broward State Attorney Michael Satz's office determined that in all three cases, there was insufficient evidence to show she had committed a crime. Two of the cases involved allegations of unlawful compensation, and the third involved criminal election laws governing the spending and accounting of campaign contributions.

The memo brought embarrassing details, including Ritter's lobbyist husband charging $551.48 of a $791 family dinner to his employer, falsely claiming that county commission staff were present, according to the state attorney's office.
