TAMPA, MARCH 3, 2018 – USF head coach Jose Fernandez was recognized as the American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, the league announced Saturday morning in a press conference at Mohegan Sun Arena. Kitija Laksa was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Fernandez has been at the helm of the USF women's basketball program for 18 seasons and has led the team to its sixth-straight 20-win season. Fernandez is the second coach in program history to receive conference coach of the year honors. Trudi Lacey was Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 1989.
