24 S. Florida hospitals get 'A,' one earns 'D' in Leapfrog safety report

Most South Florida hospitals are continuing to maintain high safety standards, according to the latest biannual report by The Leapfrog Group.

The nonprofit organization, which advocates for safer health care delivery, gave 24 of South Florida's 45 hospitals an "A" in its latest rankings, released Wednesday. Last spring, 22 hospitals in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties earned an "A."

There were, however, some drops in local Leapfrog scores.

Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach posted the largest decrease, going from an "A" to a "C" in 12 months. The University of Miami Hospital went from a "C" to a "D," the only South Florida medical center to earn this ranking.
