COLUMBIA — Before he underwent Tommy John surgery in the spring of 2015, South Carolina pitcher Wil Crowe told head coach Chad Holbrook it was his goal to come back and be the Gamecocks’ opening day starter for the 2017 season.
“I kind of smirked,” Holbrook recalled, “because I thought he’d be drafted high enough. I was concerned that he had thrown his last game at South Carolina when his injury occurred. But he’s held true to his word.”
Crowe’s return from a torn ulnar collateral ligament bolsters the pitching staff for a Gamecocks team that opened the fall scrimmage season this past weekend.
