Shane Beamer is deeply connected to Virginia Tech, as he is the son of Frank Beamer, the Hokies' legendary Hall-of-Fame coach (1987-2015). Beamer also played at VT as a wide receiver and long snapper, finishing his career on Tech's1999 national runner-up team. Beamer later joined his father's staff from 2011-2015 as Associate Head Coach and Running Backs Coach. He even served as the acting HC during the 2014 Military Bowl while Frank was recovering from surgery. Given Beamer's pedigree, Hokies fans have long viewed him as a "native son," someone who intimately knows the program and community.
