Tyler Johnson's unexpected gem helps Gamecocks force deciding game in NCAA regional

COLUMBIA — Chad Holbrook hoped for three or four innings out of Tyler Johnson. He got a performance that ranks among the greatest postseason efforts in South Carolina history and a victory that pulled the Gamecocks within one win of the super regionals.

A sophomore reliever making his first career start, Johnson tossed a 10-strikeout complete game Sunday that led top-seeded South Carolina to a 10-1 victory over No. 2 seed UNC Wilmington in the NCAA Tournament at Founders Park. USC forced a deciding game with the Seahawks at 6 p.m. Monday, with the winner advancing to the super regionals.
