Dawn Staley wanted her point guard to be more aggressive. Tyasha Harris made it happen.
In an ugly, gritty contest at Colonial Life Arena on Wednesday night, South Carolina overcame a sluggish start and streaky shooting to defeat Dayton, 65-55, and snap a rare losing streak. Harris led the Gamecocks (4-3) with a season-high 24 points.
After losing back-to-back nonconference games for the first time since 2010, Staley insisted before the game that she was encouraged by her team’s progress, but South Carolina came out sloppy on defense, surrendering easy looks for Dayton, who hit six of its first seven attempts.
