The long, mysterious wait is over: The South Carolina Gamecocks have scheduled their 12th game and are set to meet the Akron Zips on Dec. 1 at noon in Williams-Brice Stadium.
The Zips, hailing from the Mid-American Conference, are 4-4 (3-2) so far, with a nice 39-34 win against Northwestern to their credit. They are currently fourth in the MAC East standings.
Akron is replacing South Carolina’s earlier scheduled game against Marshall on Sept. 15, which was canceled due to Hurricane Florence. The Zips are free because they lost a game of their own — their season opener against Nebraska was scratched because of lightning.
