Before home football games, South Carolina players, band and cheerleaders walk through Gamecock Park on their way to Williams-Brice Stadium. Within Gamecock Park sits a central open space, a grassy promenade lined with scarlet oaks. The school’s board of trustees on Friday approved naming the walkway in the area after former South Carolina quarterback and current broadcaster Tommy Suggs.
Suggs played for the Gamecocks in the late 1960s, leading them to their only conference championship in school history, the 1969 ACC championship. Suggs has been a part of the South Carolina football radio broadcast team for over 40 years.
