The South Carolina Gamecocks brought their 2018 basketball recruiting to a nice close with a commitment from touted wing A.J. Lawson.
Lawson, a 6-foot-6 combo guard hailing from Canada, actually reclassified from the Class of 2019, in which he had a four-star rating and was tabbed as the 37th-best prospect at his position by 247Sports. His reclassification helped put him on the Gamecocks’ radar after South Carolina suffered quite a bit of turnover earlier in the offseason, particularly in the backcourt. With the departure of suspended guard Rakym Felder, and Brian Bowen forced to go pro after no decision on his eligibility from the NCAA, the Gamecocks had to quickly get back to the drawing board.
