Sapakoff: A 'much different' Gamecocks team than last year, says Holbrook

COLUMBIA – With a Top of Carolina lunch on the 18th floor of the Capstone Building, a South Carolina campus diner can get a 360-degree rotating view of Columbia and dessert.

Over at Founders Park, the South Carolina baseball team has taken a spin, too. If not 180 degrees different from the dip the program took last year, the 2016 version of the Gamecocks showed potential Friday night.

Undefeated South Carolina still hasn’t proven it can beat a good team playing well. But in an 8-1 victory over Clemson in the opener of a three-game series, the Gamecocks (10-0) showed what can happen with three critical elements necessary for big-time success:

- An authentic Friday night starting pitcher with a power arm.
