Remembering LSU’s kindness: How Baton Rouge Embraced South Carolina After the 2015 Flood

Ten years ago this week, the city of Columbia, South Carolina was under water, literally and emotionally. The entire metro area was brought to its knees by historic flooding. Emergency sirens cut through the early morning hours, neighborhoods disappeared beneath rising water, and families stood on sidewalks watching their lives wash away. Streets turned into rivers, families were displaced, and our community was left scrambling to rebuild. Yet what happened next reminded me, and all of us, what sports can mean when humanity comes first. I remember pacing by the door, waiting to see if the water would come inside my home, while my neighbors were rescued by boat.
