Quite a pair: Former Gamecocks QB Steve Taneyhill buys famous Columbia student bar

COLUMBIA - Steve Taneyhill buying Columbia’s famed Group Therapy bar just makes sense.

Taneyhill ruled Gamecock football in the 1990s as a brash freshman quarterback who became a fan favorite for wearing long hair, taunting rivals and winning unwinnable games.

Group Therapy is a four-decade-old Five Points legend, famed for its wall of photos featuring years of partying University of South Carolina students and an end-of-night sing-a-long of David Allan Coe’s “You Never Even Call Me By My Name.”

Taneyhill and Group. Together. Of course.

“I always wanted to have a bar one day,” Taneyhill said after announcing the purchase on social media Thursday.
