Political football: Game goes on for USC over Haley's objections

COLUMBIA — Hurricane Matthew’s severe winds have disrupted much of South Carolina with a coastal evacuation, but the fierce storm has not blown away the state’s major college football game this weekend.

The University of South Carolina was still set to play the University of Georgia as scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at William-Brice Stadium — against the wishes of Gov. Nikki Haley. The school was expected to announce a decision about the game Thursday but didn’t.
