How recruiting calendar change could impact a bowl practice perk for USC

A year ago, South Carolina defensive tackle M.J. Webb went right from the high school ranks into the Gamecocks’ bowl practices, honing his skills against college athletes.

It seems less likely an early enrollee will get that chance this time around.

Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp said the new signing day (Dec. 20) and a recruiting dead period could interfere with anyone getting in that early, a relative rarity.

“It’s going to be more difficult to have guys be involved in bowl practice,” Muschamp said, “because that is now a 48-hour dead period from the 20th through the 22nd.
