South Carolina will open the 2025 college football season on a big stage, and with a legendary figure leading the way. When the Gamecocks face Virginia Tech in the Aflac Kickoff Game at the Merecedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday, August 31, South Carolina will be represented by Heisman Trophy winner and former Gamecock George Rogers as the honorary captain. The Hokies will be represented by linebacker Divine Deablo.
Rogers remains one of the most iconic figures in Gamecock history. In 1980, he rushed for 1,894 yards and 14 touchdowns, earning the Heisman Trophy as the nation's top player.
