COLUMBIA — His heroics at South Carolina, where he starred on a team that claimed the program’s lone SEC title, will never be forgotten. But to his players at Charleston Southern, BJ McKie is a vestige from another time.
“The kids don’t remember anymore,” he said, smiling. “But from time to time, they’ll still YouTube me and say, ‘Oh, Coach, you could play.’”
Indeed, he could. The guard from Irmo is the leading scorer in South Carolina history, the catalyst on Gamecocks squads that reached the NCAA Tournament in two consecutive seasons and won the SEC crown in 1997.
