COLUMBIA — South Carolina was on the field practicing for Saturday’s NCAA super regional opener when Gamecocks pitcher Braden Webb was selected in the Major League draft. A few hours later, the same thing happened to Oklahoma State shortstop Donnie Walton.
It’s the kind of situation that leaves college baseball coaches — particularly those still competing to reach the College World Series — shaking their heads. They’re happy for their players, but not the intrusion.
“At least it wasn’t between innings in one of his starts. It could have been worse,” said Gamecocks head coach Chad Holbrook.
