In all of A’ja Wilson’s long and storied four-year career at South Carolina, there was one honor still missing — until Wednesday.
USA Today Sports announced its women’s college basketball All-American teams and awards on Wednesday, and Wilson topped the list with her first ever National Player of the Year award.
Wilson’s victory is not unexpected — she was the favorite all year long, and she is the only player in the country to rank in the top 15 of the NCAA in points, rebounds and blocks per game.
The Gamecock senior is also a finalist for the Wooden Award and the Naismith Trophy, both given to the national player of the year, as well as the Lisa Leslie Award, given to the nation’s best center.
